padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\"><strong>George Atiyeh<\/strong>, a Gates resident and <strong><span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">prominent<\/span> Opal Creek <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">preservation advocate<\/span><\/strong>, said, &ldquo;I think it will be a good thing, as long as they do everything they say they are going to do.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px; padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\"><strong>Michael Donnelly<\/strong>, an <strong>Oregon Natural Resources Council board member<\/strong>, said, &ldquo;Right offhand, I thought if you&#39;re going to do mining, that&#39;s the most Earth-friendly kind I&#39;ve heard of.&rdquo; He followed up by saying, &ldquo;If they do everything they&#39;ve said they will, it should be OK.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px; padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\"><strong>Tom Fencl<\/strong>, the <strong>co-owner of a local logging company<\/strong>, said, &ldquo;They&#39;ve got it pretty well thought out.&rdquo; He followed up by saying, &ldquo;It would be good for the community, because logging is going to take a step down.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px; padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\"><strong>Kevin Long<\/strong>, the <strong>President of the North Santiam Chamber of Commerce<\/strong>, said, &ldquo;We&#39;re excited about the possibilities that exist.&rdquo; He followed up by saying, &ldquo;The best thing the Forest Service could do for this community would be to really focus on this project and give it a tremendous amount of attention.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px; padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\">The <strong>Stayton Area Rotary Club vice president<\/strong>, writing on behalf of the club, said, &ldquo;The proposed mining operation will have a positive impact on the area&#39;s depressed economy without any significant detrimental environmental consequences.&rdquo; He then said, &ldquo;We look forward to having you as part of our Santiam Canyon community.&rdquo; He also said, &ldquo;If we can be of any help to you in the future, please don&#39;t hesitate to call on us.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px; padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\"><strong>Dan Bradley<\/strong>, the <strong>Salem water superintendent<\/strong>, said that officials <strong><span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">did not<\/span><\/strong> consider the <strong>Bornite Project<\/strong> a <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>threat<\/strong><\/span> to <strong><span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">water quality<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px; padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\">The <strong>Statesman Journal editorial board<\/strong> said, &ldquo;Oregon might be able to live with a 1,000-foot-deep copper mine.&rdquo; It also argued, &ldquo;Mining should not be ruled out as incompatible with sound multiple use of the area.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px; padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\">The <strong>Statesman Journal<\/strong>, when <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>reporting<\/strong><\/span> on the <strong>Mill City public meeting<\/strong>, said, &ldquo;Local residents gave a friendly reception&rdquo; and that it &ldquo;produced no public criticism of the plan.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px; padding:0; font-family:Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:1.6;\">The <strong>Oregonian<\/strong> wrote in an article, &ldquo;A proposed copper mine near Mill City actually has won compliments from environmentalists.&rdquo; It <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\"><strong>explicitly contrasted<\/strong><\/span> <strong>Bornite<\/strong> with <strong>&ldquo;<span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">strong opposition<\/span>&rdquo;<\/strong> to <strong><span style=\"color:#f1c40f;\">gold mining<\/span> proposals<\/strong> <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>elsewhere<\/strong><\/span> in Oregon.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px;
