\n ZeroHedge<\/strong> tweeted<\/strong><\/span> on\n X<\/strong> yesterday evening:\n \n “It would be great if @elonmusk could take a look inside Fort Knox just to make sure the\n 4,580 tons of US gold<\/span> is there. Last time anyone looked was\n 50 years ago in 1974.”\n <\/strong>\n <\/p>\n\n \n

\n Elon Musk<\/strong> replied,\n “Surely it\u2019s reviewed at least every year?”<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n\n

\n Since year-end 2021,\n SPDR Gold Trust (GLD)<\/strong><\/span> has\n gained 58.20%<\/strong><\/span> versus\n Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO)\n gaining 27.65%<\/span><\/strong> and\n iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT)<\/strong>\n declining 38.22%<\/strong><\/span>.\n <\/p>\n\n \n

\n Despite gold<\/span>\n strongly outperforming<\/span><\/strong>\n stocks<\/strong> and bonds<\/strong>,\n retail investors<\/strong> have\n missed out<\/strong><\/span> on its\n rally<\/strong><\/span>. During this period,\n GLD<\/strong><\/span> saw\n $4.673 billion in outflows<\/strong><\/span>, while\n VOO<\/strong> experienced\n $220.925 billion in inflows<\/strong><\/span> and\n TLT<\/strong> saw\n $46.105 billion in inflows<\/strong><\/span>.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n GLD<\/strong><\/span> has been consistently\n hitting new all-time highs<\/strong><\/span>\n relative<\/strong><\/span> to\n TLT<\/strong>, yet investors continue to\n pull out<\/strong><\/span> of\n GLD<\/strong><\/span> and\n pile into<\/span> TLT<\/strong>.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n Elon Musk auditing<\/span><\/strong> the\n gold reserves<\/strong><\/span> could be the\n catalyst<\/strong><\/span> that causes\n retail investors<\/strong> to\n reverse out<\/strong><\/span> of\n underperforming<\/span> VOO<\/strong> and\n TLT<\/strong>, and\n pile into<\/span>\n GLD<\/span><\/strong> and\n gold mining \/ exploration stocks<\/strong><\/span>.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n During gold\u2019s<\/span>\n last bull market<\/span><\/strong>, the price\n peaked<\/strong><\/span> in 2011<\/strong> at\n 1.70\u00d7<\/strong><\/span> the\n S&P 500<\/strong>.
