Shockingly, the <strong><span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">top 5<\/span> <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">most popular<\/span> AI models<\/strong> were all <strong>Chinese<\/strong>. If we include <strong>MiMo-V2.5<\/strong>, <strong>Hy3<\/strong>, and <strong>GLM 5.2<\/strong> in addition to DeepSeek V4 Flash 0423 and DeepSeek V4 Pro, the top 5 most popular AI models <strong>(all Chinese) had a <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">combined market share of 43.16%<\/span><\/strong>. <strong>Anthropic Claude AI models<\/strong> have <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>fallen out<\/strong><\/span> of the <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>top 10<\/strong><\/span>. <strong>OpenAI&#39;s <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">newly released<\/span> GPT-5.6 Luna<\/strong> was ranked <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>#9<\/strong><\/span> with a <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\"><strong>3.43% market share<\/strong><\/span>, but that was only after implementing an <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>80% price cut<\/strong><\/span> on July 30th.<\/p>\n<!-- Section: IPO Nightmare -->\n\n<h3 style=\"font-size:17px; line-height:1.3; color:#1a1a1a; margin:20px 0 8px; font-weight:700; border-bottom:2px solid #e9ecef; padding-bottom:4px;\">The <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">Impossible<\/span> IPO Path<\/h3>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 14px;\">After the <strong><span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">disastrous<\/span> SpaceX IPO<\/strong>, if <strong>Anthropic<\/strong> and\/or <strong>OpenAI<\/strong> went public today at <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>$1 trillion<\/strong><\/span> valuations, <strong>investor appetite will be <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">very low<\/span><\/strong>. However, if they <strong><span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">don&#39;t<\/span><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">go public<\/span><\/strong>, it will be <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>impossible<\/strong><\/span> for them to <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>raise the $1 trillion in funding<\/strong><\/span> they need between now and 2030 to cover all of the commitments made to <strong>cloud infrastructure providers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<!-- Section: Hyperscaler Dependency -->\n\n<h3 style=\"font-size:17px; line-height:1.3; color:#1a1a1a; margin:20px 0 8px; font-weight:700; border-bottom:2px solid #e9ecef; padding-bottom:4px;\">Big Tech&rsquo;s AI Revenue: A Two\u2011Client House of Cards<\/h3>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 14px;\">In recent weeks, big tech AI hyperscalers <strong>Microsoft (MSFT)<\/strong>, <strong>Alphabet (GOOGL)<\/strong>, and <strong>Amazon (AMZN)<\/strong> made <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>significant gains<\/strong><\/span> after they each reported <strong><span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">strong<\/span> 2Q 2026 revenue <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">growth<\/span><\/strong> with <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>all of their reported growth<\/strong><\/span> coming from <strong>cloud-based AI services<\/strong>. Most people don&#39;t seem to understand that about <strong>70% of their cloud-based AI services revenue comes from Anthropic and OpenAI<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<!-- Section: OpenAI's Deep Losses -->\n\n<h3 style=\"font-size:17px; line-height:1.3; color:#1a1a1a; margin:20px 0 8px; font-weight:700; border-bottom:2px solid #e9ecef; padding-bottom:4px;\">OpenAI: <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">Massive<\/span> <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">Losses<\/span>, <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">Free\u2011Tier<\/span> <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">Reality<\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 14px;\">Although OpenAI still has a 46.4% global market share in the consumer AI assistant space, roughly <strong>95% of those users remain on the <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">free tier<\/span><\/strong> with the rest paying an average of only<strong> $20 per month<\/strong>. OpenAI had a net loss of <strong><span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">$38.5 billion<\/span> in 2025<\/strong> alone with <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>operating expenses<\/strong><\/span> set to <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>rise significantly<\/strong><\/span> over the next few years.<\/p>\n<!-- Section: AWS From $216M to $220B -->\n\n<h3 style=\"font-size:17px; line-height:1.3; color:#1a1a1a; margin:20px 0 8px; font-weight:700; border-bottom:2px solid #e9ecef; padding-bottom:4px;\">AWS: From $216 Million to a $220 Billion CAPEX Gamble<\/h3>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 14px;\"><strong>Amazon&#39;s AWS buildout<\/strong> was thought to be <strong><span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">dangerously expensive<\/span><\/strong> at the time, as they <strong><span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">scaled up<\/span> annual corporate CAPEX<\/strong> from $216 million in 2006 to $979 million in 2010. <strong>AWS<\/strong> <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>didn&#39;t<\/strong><\/span> cross into <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\"><strong>sustained<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong> profitability<\/strong><\/span> for <strong>Amazon<\/strong> until around 2013, and by that point, Amazon had poured a cumulative <strong>$11 billion+<\/strong> into total company <strong>CAPEX<\/strong> with analysts estimating <strong>$3 billion to $5 billion<\/strong> went directly into <strong>AWS<\/strong>. But that was a <strong><span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">smart<\/span> <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">investment<\/span><\/strong> for the future and led to a <strong><span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">widely diversified<\/span> customer base<\/strong> and <strong><span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">huge<\/span> long-term <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">growth<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 14px;\">Because their <strong>CAPEX<\/strong> investments <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\"><strong>worked out<\/strong><\/span> in the past, <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>nobody<\/strong><\/span> questions what <strong>Amazon<\/strong> is spending today, even though it is on pace to deploy a staggering <strong>$220 billion in CAPEX in 2026<\/strong>, with the budget recently swelling by $20 billion due to <strong>memory cost <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">inflation<\/span><\/strong>. How are the <strong>Chinese models<\/strong> managing to do well <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\"><strong>without<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\"><strong>spending trillions of dollars<\/strong><\/span> on <strong>GPUs<\/strong>? What if OpenAI and Anthropic can&#39;t make good on their $1 trillion in commitments? Almost all of the conversation revolves around the supposedly <strong>insatiable demand<\/strong> for <strong>compute<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 14px;\">On the Invest Like the Best podcast this week, prominent AI hedge fund manager Gavin Baker asked, <strong>&ldquo;Have you heard anyone say they have too many GPUs? Not a single person!&rdquo;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 14px;\">But why is that, by itself, a <strong><span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">bullish<\/span> argument<\/strong> for the AI industry? Who exactly is he expecting to say they have <strong>&quot;too many GPUs&quot;<\/strong>? Today&#39;s demand is <strong><span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">highly<\/span> <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">concentrated<\/span><\/strong> among a relatively small number of hyperscalers, AI labs, and GPU cloud providers. Does he really expect them to <strong><span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">publicly<\/span> <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">admit the truth<\/span><\/strong> that they <strong><span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">overbuilt<\/span> <span style=\"color:#2980b9;\">too many<\/span> datacenters, have warehouses full of <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">unused<\/span> GPUs, and may <span style=\"color:#e74c3c;\">never<\/span> <span style=\"color:#27ae60;\">make back the $1 trillion<\/span> in CAPEX<\/strong> already spent?<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 14px;\"><span style=\"font-size:8px;\"><em>Past performance is not an indicator of future returns.
