Medicure Could Receive FDA Priority Review Voucher
Medicure (TSXV: MPH) gained by 3.41% on Friday to $4.25 per share and if they get FDA approval for their drug that is in Phase 3 trials (NIA's President has spent hundreds of hours doing research and the drug works) they will receive an FDA Priority Review Voucher (PRV). A PRV allows a pharmaceutical company to accelerate the FDA review of a future drug application, generally reducing the review target from 10 months to 6 months. The FDA allows these vouchers to be sold or transferred to other companies.
This month a NASDAQ-listed biotech company Ultragenyx sold two PRVs. On October 14th they sold a PRV for US$203 million and on October 7th they sold a PRV for US$210 million.
If Medicure (TSXV: MPH) gets FDA approval and receives a PRV they are likely to sell it to the highest bidder for US$203-$210 million, which would be equal to CAD$286.65-$296.53 million. MPH has only 10,436,313 shares outstanding. If they get FDA approval the PRV they receive will be worth approximately $27.46-$28.41 per share in value to MPH shareholders.
Unlike the high-risk biotech stocks Martin Shkreli suggests to his followers many of which decline to zero, MPH is burning very little cash because it owns a pharmacy business that generates significant revenue and positive EBITDA. Medicure (TSXV: MPH) owns pharmacies on both the east and west coasts of the U.S. where they sell exclusive prescription drug products both at their pharmacies in person and online through their telehealth platform.
NIA's President didn't want anybody to guess the stock he was accumulating before he was able to purchase an initial position, so we said two months ago that he was accumulating a biotech stock with a $2 million market cap. MPH has never traded at a $2 million market cap, but it certainly trades like one, because it is very tightly held with no dilution.
MPH is unlikely to gain as much as NIA's natural resource stock suggestions. NIA believes its most recently announced brand-new copper stock suggestions Ameriwest Critical Metals (CSE: AWCM), Super Copper (CSE: CUPR), and GSP Resource (TSXV: GSPR) have the most short-term upside potential. However, Medicure (TSXV: MPH) has potential to become the world's #1 largest gaining biotech stock of 2027.
