Everybody Owns TLT, Nobody Owns GLD!

Over the last two years, every "Fintwit" influencer who gives investment advice on Twitter/X has been super bullish on iShares 20 Plus Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT). According to Google Trends, search interest in TLT is up 10-fold over the last 24 months to new all-time highs vs. search interest in SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) being flat near historical lows. In recent weeks, there have been 7.69X more searches for TLT than GLD.

Since October 6, 2021, TLT has declined by 41.28% vs. GLD increasing by 2.83%!

The iShares 20 Plus Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) was launched in 2002 and during the first 18 years of its existence investors profited a cumulative $8.07 billion. However, since Fintwit influencers began pumping TLT on social media, these $8.07 billion in profits have evaporated and TLT investors have now experienced cumulative losses of $11.18 billion. Retail investors have lost $19.25 billion on TLT in recent years!
