The following screenshot is from a 1993 Government of Newfoundland and Labrador geological report discussing the Wolverine Heavy Rare Earth Project of Saga Metals (TSXV: SAGA), back when the area was known as Nuiklavik. Keep in mind that absolutely no drilling had occurred at Wolverine/Nuiklavik at this time. These observations were based on geological mapping, surface exposures, and rock sampling. In places where the mineralized volcanic sequence was exposed at surface, government geologists were able to measure its stratigraphic thickness and correlate the same mineralized unit across the broader area:

The report concluded that the rare-metal mineralization had been observed to be 32 metres thick in one occurrence and at least 4 metres thick over an area of 14 square kilometres.

SAGA is now estimating a total footprint of REE Ash Flows at the Wolverine Heavy Rare Earth Project of 26 sq km, one of the largest in the world. Wednesday’s confirmation (even without assays being ready yet) that the prospective REE-bearing volcanic ash tuff unit was intercepted for 169 metres is a total game-changer. We can’t wait for the official assays to be released in the weeks ahead.
