Volta Has 7th Largest REE Resource in North America
Volta Metals (CSE: VLTA) has the 7th largest Rare Earth Element (REE) resource in North America because not only is its footprint of REEs absolutely massive at 700 metres by 400 metres, or 0.28 sq km, but many of its drill intercepts extend to depths of approximately 300 m, which shows the importance of depth.
This is why Saga Metals (TSXV: SAGA)’s announcement this week that the company intersected 169 metres of the shallowly dipping prospective REE-bearing volcanic ash tuff unit in its very first drill hole is so important.
Scientists reported in 1993 that SAGA’s Wolverine Heavy Rare Earth Project contained rare-metal mineralization that was 32 metres thick in one occurrence and at least 4 metres thick over an area of 14 square kilometres:
We already know from the initial shallow RC drill holes completed in 2025 that strong REE grades were discovered at depths greater than scientists had imagined:
- WOLRC25-003: 48.8 m @ 0.77% total rare earth oxides (“TREO*”) from 1.5 m, including 18.3 m @ 1.06% TREO
- WOLRC25-006: 38.1 m @ 0.71% TREO from surface, including 4.6 m @ 1.53% TREO
- WOLRC25-002: 51.8 m @ 0.52% TREO from surface, including 33.5 m @ 0.67% TREO
And now we know in 2026 that SAGA’s very first hole intersected 169 metres of prospective REE-bearing volcanic ash tuff, which nobody thought was possible. Most importantly, SAGA made it clear that it doesn’t believe it stops there.
SAGA described W26-001 as being at the cool, upper end of the feeder, meaning the highest-grade REEs could potentially be located even deeper. However, the contract SAGA signed for an initial 4,000-5,000 m of drilling is something the company wants to use to prove the massive scale of Wolverine, which has the potential to reach 26 sq km in scale.
If SAGA drills 340 m holes right now, that means fewer metres are available to demonstrate the massive scale of the system. However, SAGA quietly raised millions more this week at a premium above the current share price, without issuing any warrants to investors. This should put the company in a position to increase the size of the drilling program after assays are returned from the lab.
The photo below isn’t even part of SAGA’s 26 sq km REE ash-flow footprint, but it shows the area where samples were discovered grading as high as 21.6% Total Rare Earth Oxide (TREO):
SAGA’s rocks at Wolverine are among the oldest in the world. These are the same rocks that were once connected to Greenland, where some of the largest and most valuable known REE deposits are located.
