NIA’s Pierre Poilievre-Themed “Common Sense” Alert
We always love looking at the sentiment of dumb money by reading Reddit posts. If there is an active subreddit dedicated to a single stock with thousands of followers cheerleading, it is always a red flag.
On January 1, 2025, NIA published an alert entitled, “There Is No Common Sense in the Market Anymore” (click here to read) with a Pierre Poilievre theme because we were hoping he would become Canadian Prime Minister, but to Mark Carney’s credit, he is a lot better than Trudeau and approved First Mining Gold (TSX: FF)’s Springpole Gold Project even though Pierre Poilievre was publicly supporting it (President Trump deserves credit for motivating Mark Carney to support the mining industry).
In our alert, we warned that the three most actively discussed stocks on Reddit that everybody was bullish on, BigBear.ai (BBAI), KULR Technology Group (KULR), and Castellum (CTM), had no fundamental value.
We highlighted that these investors would be smart to invest in One Stop Systems (OSS) instead, which was cash flow positive and selling its high-tech AI solutions to the Army, Navy, and military defense contractors around the world.
Here is the performance of OSS vs. BBAI, KULR, and CTM since NIA’s “No Common Sense” alert. The three favorite stocks of Reddit posters, BBAI, KULR, and CTM, have declined by an average of 70.43% vs. NIA’s OSS gaining by 207.93%:
This morning, we have been looking at posts mentioning Borussia Dortmund (ETR: BVB) in recent years, and these are the quotes that stand out:
“I own the stock because I love Borussia Dortmund, not because I expect to make money.”
“I have a small amount of shares… as a way of feeling more in touch with the club, not as an actual investment.”
“More of a sentimental stock to own.”
“Will hold them my whole life.”
“My parents bought shares because they were fans.”
“Buy it if you’re a fan. If you’re looking for returns, buy something else.”
“Not something to buy for wealth creation.”
“If you can reliably achieve a return of 7-9% in the medium term with dirt-cheap small-cap ETFs, I ask myself why you should bet on BVB shares in the long term for economic reasons.”
“I know it’s probably a poor investment, but I love the club.”
Borussia Dortmund (ETR: BVB) is probably only the third-best professional sports stock after Celtic plc (LSE: CCP) and Manchester United (MANU), but it has a 100% chance of outperforming the S&P 500 over the next year, and these posts confirm it.
Try searching Reddit or X for posts about TiO2 as an investment, and you will find absolutely zero discussion about it even though it is the #1 most important mineral that we interact with daily. Look around the room you are in. If the wall is white, the ceiling is white, or you have white wall fixtures, you have TiO2 all over your house. Look at the ingredients in your sunscreen. It almost definitely contains TiO2. Without TiO2, we would have no fighter jets or robotics. It is the world’s most important mineral for literally everything!
We need to build millions of new homes in America to reduce housing prices relative to incomes. If we have a new housing boom after the AI bubble goes bust, TiO2 stocks like Saga Metals (TSXV: SAGA) and Temas Resources (CSE: TMAS) will increase the most.
Moving forward, whichever stocks are the most boring and that the fewest people consider a good investment will be the stocks that outperform.
